Apollo College - Online

Information regarding online courses and programs

Apollo College offers students enrolled in its degree programs the opportunity to complete a portion of their courses online. Information regarding specific courses offered can be obtained from the Director of Admissions or Dean of Education (Online Coordinator). Due to the rigorous and independent nature of the online courses, students must demonstrate that they have the acumen and technical abilities to complete the coursework. Additional information to consider before enrolling online is located below.

To find out if online courses are available in your preferred program of study, contact an Admissions Representative today!

Consortium arrangement

Online courses are offered through a consortium agreement between the student’s home campus and the Apollo College – Albuquerque campus, herein known as the host campus. The faculty utilized by the host campus meets all the requirements as those of the home campus. Students may receive support services such as access to the library, financial aid, admissions, and registrar, as well as assistance from the Dean of Education at their home campus. Online students also enjoy access to the online library and counseling through Student Resource Services.

Enrollment process

Steps to enroll in online courses or programs are:

  1. Completion of the “Is online education for me?” readiness assessment with a cut score of 20 or higher.
  2. Completion of the Technical Requirements form.
  3. Completion of an Enrollment Application.
  4. An interview with an Admissions Representative.
  5. Evidence of meeting the program's educational requirements to include proof of high school graduation or equivalency. ATB students are not admitted to online programs. Documentation of an Associate’s or higher degree is sufficient to meet the HS/GED documentation requirement. Transcripts that document that a student has only attended or completed a class or classes at another postsecondary school, without graduating, are not sufficient documentation for meeting the High School Diploma or GED documentation requirement. Students may submit a Military DD214 form as evidence of high school completion, provided that the document specifically references HS Diploma or GED.
  6. Completion of a background check and/or drug screening, if required for the degree program.
  7. Payment of a registration fee when applicable.
  8. Approval of the application by the Executive Campus Director or Dean of Education upon finding that the prospective student meets the programs entrance requirements and has the academic and personal qualifications for success in the chosen program.

After being accepted into the program, but before beginning instruction, students must complete the “Orientation to Online Learning” module. This module is completed in conjunction with new student orientation and covers items unique to the online instructional format, such as

Description of course delivery

Online courses are eight weeks in length. Apollo College uses the eCollege Learning Management System for its online program. The eCollege platform allows students to interact with their faculty and peers in a meaning way at a distance. Unlike on-ground instruction where students attend class, participate in oral discussions, and review lessons with a faculty utilizing a blackboard or LCD projector, the eCollege platform utilizes other means to present information and facilitate the sharing of ideas. Examples of online learning activities include:

  • Interactive, weekly lessons that include activities to check comprehension.
  • Threaded discussions with faculty and peers.
  • Group projects and document sharing.
  • Journaling.
  • Research.
  • Synchronous and asynchronous tutoring and whiteboard availability.
  • Educational games.
  • Case studies.

Weekly expectations

Regular attendance in an online course is as important as attendance in an on-ground class. Online attendance is calculated weekly (12:01am Monday – 11:59pm Sunday). To be awarded full attendance credit the student must meet both the following quantitative and qualitative measures as reference below:

  • Log on a minimum of 4 times per week.
  • Complete at least two assignments as described in the syllabus per week.

Time spent in online activities must be equivalent to that spent in an on-ground classroom environment.

Students must bring proof of identification (government issued ID with a photo) and complete the final examination for each course at the campus.

"My experience at Apollo has been amazing. The hands-on training makes learning easier and more enjoyable. My instructors were top-notch and the class sizes are small so you get a lot more help. I can’t say enough great things about Apollo." – Jamie Martinez
