Diagnostic Medical Sonography

New at the Mesa, Arizona Campus

Apollo College now offers a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (DMS) certificate program that prepares students for a rewarding career in ultrasound technology. This comprehensive, 16 month (4 semester) program, focuses on all aspects of general ultrasound including abdominal, pelvic, and obstetric anatomy and pathology.

Length of Program

The program combines both lecture and laboratory learning (32 weeks) before students engage in laboratory rotations for the second 32 week period. Medical Sonography classes are held in dedicated classrooms outfitted with the latest in audio/visual technology as well as a dedicated scan laboratory outfitted with current ultrasound equipment and the MedSim's ultrasound simulator - the UltraSim®.

Employment Outlook and Certification

Employment of diagnostic medical sonographers is expected to increase by about 19 percent through 2016 — faster than average for all occupations—as the population ages, increasing the demand for diagnostic imaging and therapeutic technology*. Graduates of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Apollo College may also be prepared to sit for three registry exams: Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation, Abdomen and Obstetrics/Gynecology.

More about Medical Sonography

Diagnostic Medical Sonography is a highly specialized field of medical imaging and is highly operator dependent. Diagnostic Medical Sonographers will typically perform patient assessments, acquire and analyze data obtained using ultrasound and related diagnostic technologies.
